GEM Mobile Treatment Services Inc. (GEM MTS) announced the completion of a substantial water treatment project performed for Royal Vopak (Vopak) at their Freeport, Bahamas bulk liquid distribution terminal. The petroleum-contaminated sour water, which was accumulated on-site over time, was treated over a two month period. GEM MTS applied a combination of oil water separation, chemical oxidation, filtration and carbon absorption to bring the waste water within the specification for on-site discharge. Vapor control of H2S was managed through the use of GEM MTS’ custom caustic scrubbers.
“The project was completed under budgeted cost and quicker than anticipated. This allowed Vopak the ability to bring their tank back into service earlier than expected. Our crew did a fantastic job considering the challenges experienced which included working through Hurricane Gustav” commented Paul Anderson, GEM MTS Vice President of Treatment Solutions.
